The
State 4-H Horse Show is an annual, 3-day event that brings together
4-Her’s age 13-19 from counties across the state. Members are
selected by their county 4-H programs to participate in this event.
Competing at the show and being able to represent their county is a
terrific honor for the youth involved.
Over the course of this three day State 4-H Horse Show, members
compete in: English and Western events, Dressage, Trail, Hunter
Hack, Gymkhana, Draft Horse, Miniature Horse and PEP (Proud
Equestrian Program) classes. Some of the best riders in Michigan
have spent months and even years preparing for the show in hopes of
improving their relationship with their animal, bringing home a gold
medal or even being named Champion in an event. Although the show is
very competitive, the memories made and the experience gained is by
far the greatest reward of all!
A unique aspect of the State 4-H Horse Show is that it is almost
completely run by volunteers; family and friends of 4-H from across
the state come together to plan and run the show. Without their
help, and the support of the many sponsors and commercial vendors,
the event could not be as successful as it is.
The dates for the 2008 show are August 22-24. Youth will have an
opportunity to qualify for this event by participating in a
qualifying horse show on June 14, 2008 at Goodells County Park.
Paperwork indicating the 4-Her’s intent to compete at the qualifying
show must be submitted by May 1, 2008. Paperwork includes a horse ID
and a copy of the current years’ negative coggins.
